As a matter of fact, in 2007 corporations spent more than $12 billion on this type of market research in the U.S. alone, making consumer surveys one of the hottest internet jobs from home available today. Always trying to improve their existing products, or to better understand consumer preferences before launching a new product, these organizations hire paid survey companies to perform the actual research for them.
The research companies typically host online surveys that people sign up for. The answers from all the survey participants are compiled and presented back to the company that hired them, where they’re more fully analyzed. In exchange for your opinions, these companies will compensate you with cash, prizes, or entries in various sweepstakes. Some companies will even send you their products to conduct your own evaluations on them. After the initial quantitative round of research is finished, more in-depth research is usually conducted with a smaller so-called “focus group” of people. Participants at this level are compensated at a higher rate than participants in the initial surveys.
